The short, plain-language agreement between you and the person who makes Cocoa Notes.

Cocoa Notes is made and published by Elias Reyes Cravioto, an independent developer, reachable at hola@cocoanotes.app. These terms cover the Cocoa Notes app and this website. They are written to be read, not to be skipped.
Using the app
You may use Cocoa Notes for anything you like, including coursework, research and paid work. You may not resell it, redistribute it as your own, or try to break the purchase system. Beyond that there is nothing clever hidden here.
The app is licensed to you, not sold. Your notes, however, are unambiguously yours. See below.
Your notes belong to you
Cocoa Notes writes plain Markdown files into a folder you choose. Nothing about those files is owned, claimed or licensed by me. There is no account, no server and no copy of your work anywhere but your own disk and whatever cloud folder you put it in.
If you stop using Cocoa Notes, or if Cocoa Notes stops existing, your notes stay where they are and stay readable in any text editor. That is the point of storing them this way.
The beta
Cocoa Notes is currently a public beta distributed through TestFlight.
Beta builds are unfinished. They may contain bugs, may behave unexpectedly, and may change without notice. Keep backups of anything you cannot afford to lose, the same as you would with any beta software. The app writes daily backups inside your notes folder, but that is not a substitute for your own.
TestFlight builds expire ninety days after they are uploaded. When a build expires you will need to install a newer one.
Everything is free and unlocked during the beta. That is a present state, not a promise about the future.
Paying for Cocoa Pro
At launch, the notebook stays free and the study features become a one-time purchase called Cocoa Pro. It is a non-consumable in-app purchase, not a subscription, bought through Apple.
Because Apple handles the transaction, Apple also handles refunds. If you want one, request it at reportaproblem.apple.com. I cannot issue refunds myself, and I have no access to your payment details at any point.
Prices may change for future customers. A purchase you have already made is not affected.
What is not promised
Cocoa Notes is provided as it is. I build it carefully and I use it for my own coursework, but I cannot promise it is free of bugs, that it will suit your particular way of working, or that any specific feature will arrive on any specific date. Plans described on this site are intentions, not commitments.
To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from using the app. Nothing here limits any right you have that cannot be limited by law, and in some countries that includes statutory warranties which apply regardless of what this page says.
Ending things
You can stop using Cocoa Notes at any time by deleting it. Your notes folder stays behind untouched.
I may stop distributing the app, or stop updating it. If that happens, anything you already installed keeps working for as long as macOS supports it, and your notes are still plain files.

The text and design of this site are mine. Feel free to quote or link to it, including for press coverage. The press kit has assets meant for reuse.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. Material changes will be mentioned in the changelog.
